Manchester Metrolink — independent guide to the Manchester tram network

Privacy policy

In one line: we do not ask you for anything, and the only data that leaves your browser goes to the services listed below.

The short version

There is no account to create, no newsletter, no contact form and no login on this site. We do not ask for your name, your email or your location. What follows is the detail, clause by clause, with the UK GDPR article each one rests on.

1. Who is the controller

Nireweb, publisher of Manchester Metrolink, is the data controller for the processing described below. Contact: [email protected].

2. What is processed, and on what basis

2.1 Server logs. The hosting provider records the IP address, timestamp, page requested, referrer and user agent of each request. Purpose: keeping the site up and defending it against abuse. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f) UK GDPR. Retained for a short operational period and not used to build a profile of you.

2.2 Analytics. If, and only if, you consent, Google Analytics 4 records which pages were visited and how they were reached. Lawful basis: consent, Art. 6(1)(a), given through the banner and withdrawable at any time. The tag does not load before you consent.

2.3 Advertising. If you consent, third-party advertising may set identifiers used for frequency capping and, where you allow it, personalisation. Lawful basis: consent, Art. 6(1)(a). You can refuse and still read everything on the site.

2.4 Security and delivery. A content delivery network and the caching layer set short-lived technical cookies. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f); these are strictly necessary and are not used for tracking.

3. What is never processed

We do not collect names, email addresses, telephone numbers, payment details or precise location. We do not operate a contact form. We do not sell data, because we hold none to sell. We do not combine anything collected here with data from anywhere else.

4. Who the data is shared with

Only the processors that make the site work: the hosting provider, the content delivery network, and — with your consent — Google for analytics and advertising. Some of those involve transfers outside the UK, made under the UK extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses, as applicable.

5. Your rights, and how to use them

Under Arts. 15–21 UK GDPR you may request access to your data, its correction or erasure, restriction of processing, portability, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing rests on consent, you may withdraw it at any time through the cookie settings, without affecting what happened before.

One practical caveat: because we hold no identifiers that point at a person, we usually cannot locate “your” data from an email request. Art. 11 UK GDPR covers that situation: if we cannot identify you, we may not be able to act on an access or erasure request. That is a consequence of collecting so little, not an excuse.

Requests: [email protected]. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, ico.org.uk.

6. Children

This is a general-audience travel site. It is not directed at children and we knowingly collect nothing from them.

7. Changes

If this policy changes, the new version replaces this one on this page. There is no mailing list to notify, by design.

Tram times on this page come from the Traveline National Dataset (TransXChange, Open Government Licence v3.0); stop names and coordinates from NaPTAN, the Department for Transport stop register. Manchester Metrolink is an independent guide: it is not run by Metrolink or Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and has no connection with either. Check tfgm.com before you travel.
