Cookie policy
Five cookies, described by what you lose if you refuse each one.
How to read this page
Most cookie policies list a name, a provider and an expiry date, which tells you nothing about whether to accept. This one is organised the other way round: for each cookie, what it does for you and what stops working if you turn it off. The split that matters is not technical — it is whether you have a choice.
You can change your mind at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer. Refusing everything optional leaves the entire site readable: there is no content behind a consent wall here.
Cookies you cannot refuse
These three are strictly necessary: they either remember your own choice or keep the site reachable. They set no profile and follow you nowhere.
cmplz_*Remembers which categories you accepted or refused, so the banner stops asking.
Turn it off and: the banner comes back on every page you open.Lasts: 365 days
__cf_bmSet by the content delivery network to tell a browser from a script.
Turn it off and: you cannot turn it off; without it the site cannot defend itself and may refuse to load.Lasts: 30 minutes
cf_clearanceRecords that your browser has passed the security check at the edge.
Turn it off and: you may be asked to pass the check again on every request.Lasts: up to 1 year
Cookies you can refuse
These two only exist if you say yes. The banner asks before anything is set — the tag does not load first and ask afterwards.
_ga, _ga_*Counts visits and tells us which pages are used, so the next one is built around what people actually look for.
Turn it off and: nothing on the page changes. We lose the count, you lose nothing.Lasts: up to 2 years
set by the ad networkLimits how often you see the same advert and, if you allow it, makes the adverts more relevant.
Turn it off and: you still get adverts, they are just untargeted and more repetitive.Lasts: varies by provider
Where they come from
The necessary ones are set by this site and by the content delivery network in front of it. The optional ones are set by Google. We set no cookie of our own that identifies you, and the site has no login, no basket and no form, so there is nothing for one to remember.
Your browser can block all of them. If you block the first one in the necessary list, the banner reappears every time, which is a consequence of the block rather than a fault of the site.
Tram times on this page come from the Traveline National Dataset (TransXChange, Open Government Licence v3.0); stop names and coordinates from NaPTAN, the Department for Transport stop register. Manchester Metrolink is an independent guide: it is not run by Metrolink or Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and has no connection with either. Check tfgm.com before you travel.
